Jan 21, 2014 Disk2vhd is a utility that creates VHD (Virtual Hard Disk - Microsoft's Virtual Machine disk format) versions of physical disks for use in Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines (VMs). The difference between Disk2vhd and other physical-to-virtual tools is that you can run Disk2vhd on a system that’s online.
Once you copy the virtual Windows XP system's.vhd file over to the Windows 7 system, you'll then open Windows Virtual PC and launch the Create a Virtual Machine wizard, as shown in Figure H. It has been four months since Windows 7 Service Pack 1 released and today Microsoft has released first VHD image of Windows 7 SP1 along with Windows Vista Sp2 and XP sp3 VHD images. The images are patched with the latest security updates and are otherwise clean installs of the operating system with very few modifications.
Microsoft releases free copies (pre-activated) of Windows Vista and Windows XP in VHD format time to time. These Virtual PC Hard Disk Images are for testing websites with different Internet Explorer versions on Windows XP and Windows Vista but you can use them any way you like. These images expires 120 days after first run.
